The Galactic Protectorate
Headquartered on the terraformed planet of Mars in the Sol System, the Galactic Protectorate is the first organized protective and scientific force in the known galaxy — established after an attempted invasion by the “cloudforms” in the Crab Nebula.
Earth was the second planet to join. The Martian colonies were the first to organize.
Mars
Mars was the first colonized world from Earth and its terraformed surface and proximity to the asteroid belt gave the planet significant mineral wealth. As such it was a target for the first incursion of an alien species rather than its progenitor planet.
After the defeat of the warlike race from the Crab Nebula, Mars established itself as an oligarchy of sovereign nation-states. The eight sovereigns, of which there is a First Sovereign who binds the governing structure together, comprise the ruling body of the planet. They established the Galactic Protectorate to keep peace in the Sol System and to all other sectors that Mars Fleet and the Galactic Patrol might encounter.
